Yes, with care — jeans and towels are both sturdy enough that neither damages the other, and a shared cold or warm normal cycle gets both clean. The compromises: towels prefer warmer water than dark denim likes, towel lint shows on dark jeans, and the two dry on different clocks.
This is one of the more forgiving mixed loads because both items shrug off agitation. Broken-in jeans with established towels in warm water is a reasonable consolidation load.
It stops being reasonable when the jeans are new or raw (indigo everywhere) or when you care about lint-free black denim — dark denim is a lint magnet visually, even though the fabric itself doesn't attract it strongly.

The main risks
- Visible towel fuzz on dark denim straight out of the machine.
- A temperature compromise that shortchanges one side: cold shortchanges towel hygiene, warm fades denim.
- New denim tinting light-colored towels blue — indigo transfers readily onto pale terry.
- Zipper-on-terry snags are possible if towels have loose loops — zip the jeans up.
When the answer changes
- New or raw denim: no — it will dye the towels, wash it alone.
- White towels you keep bright: no — wash them hot with other whites instead of cold with jeans.
- Old jeans, old dark towels, cold water: perfectly fine consolidation load.
New or strongly colored items
New dark jeans are among the heaviest dye-bleeders in the whole laundry basket — they turn pale towels blue-gray in one wash. Give new jeans several solo (or denim-only) cold washes before letting them near towels or anything else you like.
Can they be dried together?
No — their drying needs point in opposite directions.
Jeans keep their color and fit best hung to dry, while towels need a thorough tumble. Conveniently, that solves itself: hang the jeans, tumble the towels.

Check the care labels
Denim labels often say wash cold, inside out — and stretch denim labels add low or no dryer heat. Towel labels usually allow much warmer water. When they share a load, the denim label sets the ceiling.
