Can you wash hoodies with jeans?

Yes — hoodies and jeans are natural load partners and the backbone of the classic dark casual load: similar weight, similar colors, the same preference for cold water, and similar drying clocks. Zip both up, turn both inside out, and run them together cold on a normal cycle.
These two are well matched where it counts. Both are heavy enough that neither bullies the other, both fade rather than bleed once established, and both come out best with low or no dryer heat.
The pre-wash ritual matters more than the pairing: an open hoodie zipper or jean fly is an abrasive edge for the whole load, including each other's fleece and prints.

The main risks
- Open zippers chewing the other garment's surface — zip everything before it goes in.
- New dark denim tinting a lighter hoodie (heather gray is the classic victim).
- Both are bulky: two hoodies plus two jeans is already most of a load — don't cram more in.
- Drawstrings tangling around the load; knot the ends loosely.
When the answer changes
- New jeans or a new saturated hoodie: darks-only quarantine for the newcomer's first washes.
- Light or white hoodies with dark jeans: keep them apart until the jeans are thoroughly established, and even then cold only.
- Tech-fleece or performance hoodies: those follow activewear rules — cold, gentle, air dry — and prefer a gentler load than denim.
New or strongly colored items
A new dark hoodie and new dark jeans can wash together happily — they're both bleeders headed the same direction. What neither should meet while new is anything lighter than themselves.
Can they be dried together?
Yes, on low — or hang the jeans and tumble the hoodie.
They dry on similar clocks, which makes shared tumbling workable on low heat. The color-preservation move is still to hang the jeans; the hoodie's cuffs and hood are the parts to check for dampness either way.
How to run them as separate loads
- No need in general — they belong to the same darks-casual load.
- Separate only for newness quarantine or when one of them is heavily soiled (muddy jeans get their own wash).
Check the care labels
Both usually carry easygoing labels (machine wash cold or warm, tumble low). Printed hoodies sometimes add wash inside out — do it for both garments anyway; it's free protection.
