Yes, with care
Yes, with care — a bra can ride along with soft everyday clothes if you meet its conditions: hooks fastened, bra inside a mesh bag, load run cold on the delicate cycle, and the bra fished out before anything goes near the dryer.
The mesh bag isn't optional politeness — an unfastened bra hook in a loose load catches knits, and the tumbling stretches straps and bends underwires. Bagged and fastened, the machine's gentle cycle is acceptable for everyday bras.
What the shared load can't fix is temperature and drying: elastic demands cold water and air drying whether or not the t-shirts would have preferred otherwise.

The main risks
- Unbagged: hooks snag knits and the bra emerges twisted, stretched, or wire-sprung.
- The dryer: the number-one bra killer — one hot cycle noticeably ages elastic.
- Heavy load members (jeans, hoodies) crushing molded cups out of shape — keep the shared load soft.
- Warm or hot water quietly relaxing the band elastic wash after wash.
When the answer changes
- Load contains jeans, hoodies, towels, or anything with zippers/Velcro: no — that's a delicates-hostile load. See washing delicates.
- Expensive, underwire, or beloved bras: hand wash — five minutes in a sink beats any machine compromise.
- Pull-over sports bras (no hooks): slightly more forgiving, same cold/no-dryer rules.
New or strongly colored items
Bras rarely bleed but readily receive: keep pale and nude bras out of any load containing new or saturated colors. A new red bra, though — treat it like any new bright item and wash it with darks first.
Can they be dried together?
No. The bra never enters the dryer.
Hang the bra by its center or lay it flat while the rest of the load tumbles on low. This is the one non-negotiable in the whole arrangement.
How to run them as separate loads
- Collect bras and delicates for a weekly cold gentle mini-load — the cleanest solution.
- Hand wash bras on a rolling basis: worn today, sink-washed tonight, dry by morning.
Check the care labels
Bra labels typically read hand wash or machine wash cold, gentle, no tumble — and molded or underwire styles sometimes say hand wash only, which a mesh bag does not overrule.
